Master's Degree in Chemical Science and Technology (MCTE)
Over the last century scientific research has been characterized by a progressive specialization and an increasing division of the subjects under study. By contrast nowadays, many of the relevant problems of the society are multifaceted and their study requires a comprehensive view of the subject and the ability to connect ideas. In this context, post-graduate training in Quemical Technology (CyTQ) provides the tools and the training necessary to achieve a comprehensive view of chemistry and related areas as well as industrial processes.
The chemist with interdisciplinary training is able to develop a research or professional career beyond the traditional field of work, and is able to collaborate with researchers and professionals from other disciplines apart from the chemistry and its technology, and provides as an added value a solid training, the understanding of the processes and chemical reactions and the ability to transfer ideas from one field to others such as biology, food engineering , medicine, energy, environment and materials, among others.
This Master is the result to adapt the former Master’s degree in Quemical Science and Technology to the new academic regulations. The faculty members involved in the master have the experience of the former master which was the formation stage of the doctoral program in Quemical Science and Technology, awarded with the quality mention (REF MCD2007-00572 ) from Ministry of Education, and the Mention towards Excellence from the Spanish Government (REF MEE20110104).
Taking this program you will have the chemical and technological knowledge to provide originality when solving a problem developing or applying new ideas within a research context. In addition, you will know how to apply the acquired knowledge and the ability to solve problems in new or unfamiliar environments within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to science and chemical technology. You will be able to integrate knowledge and handle complexity, and formulate judgments based on information that was incomplete or limited, including the considerations on social and ethical responsibilities linked to the application of the knowledge.
You will know how communicate your findings, the knowledge and the rational thought that support them either to specialist and non-specialists audiences in a clear and unambiguous language. You will be able to analyze and interpret complex data in the field of the Chemistry and the Quemical Technology, and in addition, to develop theoretical and practical skills to solve interesting applied problems in the context of the Chemistry and the Quemical Technology. You will know how to value the importance of chemistry and its progress in environment protection and sustanibility. You will perform laboratory experiments based on theoretical knowledge using advanced experimental techniques and you will get the knowledge how to describe the results connected with the proposed theories.
It is well know the wide range of sectors where skills in chemistry are fundamental to develop a carrer, and these jobs have a high impact on the quality of life of the society. The main areas where professionals with a chemical background can be found are: food processing, consultancy, quality control, teaching, industry, research, environment, risk prevention and health among others. Our Master`s degree gives the skills needed to work in any area related with Chemistry and Quemical Technology with a wide range of job opportunities.
Legislation requires that official Spanish degree programmes receive a positive assessment from the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA, by its Spanish acronym). This process is known as verification, and it serves to ensure that education programmes are properly designed to provide the competencies and reach the learning goals around which the programmes are built. In the technical details you can find reports on official study programmes.
The European Higher Education Area requires that there be a system in place to ensure the quality of degree programmes.
The Master's programme is subject to constant assessment and improvement processes that guarantee that it maintains a certain level of prestige and renown in Europe. You can see the results of the assessment processes in the section on quality.
